A Long Wait
Mansfield Park was written after a silence of more than a decade. During this period, Austen moved several times, saw the deaths of her father and potential suitor, and became the dependent old maid we find so often among her characters. The Napoleonic Wars continued; England embarked on imperialistic adventures. Austen followed both with interest. Do you see evidence of these things in the novel?

She has within her stories the events of death, loss of love , betrayal, selfishness, etc...all the things she observed around her. Her one love did not come to fruition and so I think she puts alot of "heartbreak" into her stories but also of love rewarded after long periods of question. There is alot of characters involved in the clergy because that is what she grew up around. And because of military situations in the life around her and because alot of her stories have Bath and other places have Naval backgrounds you do she alot of the Navy depicted in her stories.
