Literary homage

Stephenie Meyer has noted that each of the novels in the Twilight Saga pays homage to other literary classics. For New Moon she has said Romeo and Juliet was the key inspiration. Beyond the main characters and the theme of forbidden love, what other similarities do you notice between the stories? What are the differences?

That the two sides can't get along and this causes conflict on both sides. Except on the Cullen side...they love Bella. But because Charlie doesn't know the whole story I think this causes conflict for him.

Well, in Romeo and Juliet Romeo makes the mistake of killing her cousin that she is close to and that changes things forever. I believe this was a huge concern for New Moon. Edward could 'get rid' of Jacob or vice versa but they know how it would affect Bella. Romeo and Juliet unfortunately killed themselves when they thought they couldn't be together... Edward went to get the Volturi to do the job.
