sorting hat
What does the episode of the Sorting Hat reveal about Harry? What does it say about fate in the story? Is it always superior to human will?

I think it shows how even though he doesn't know much about Slytherin yet that Ron's statement about the bad wizards coming from Slytherin is enough of a reason for him to not want to be a part of it.
The hat saw in Harry the strengths that a Slytherin possesses but all Harry knew of that house was the negative. I think the hat wanted Harry to know that he had a connection to the Slytherin house, but that his fate was to be a Gryffindor. Evil had seeped in to Slytherin house, but Harry did possess some of the qualities that once made Slytherin great.
Once he saw how Slytherins acted he knew he did not want to belong to that house. Because he could have gone either way it shows great character that he wanted to go with the "nice guys"and made a conscious decision to want to be in the Gryffindor House.
