Julia
Describe Julia’s character as it relates to Winston. How is she different from him? How is she similar to him? How does Julia’s age make her attitude toward the Party very different from Winston’s?

She just didn't seem to care about too much. She didn't want to be controlled but didn't really care to change things.
It was like she was just too unpredictable.
She really didn't have any morals (which may have been hard in that society), she disliked the Party, and got away from time to time (the forest)but I think she didn't want to change things and yet she seemed to dare fate.
Julia is an interesting contrast to Winston. Sure, they both rebel against the party, but for her it is only a rebellion against the physical restrictions the Party places on her. She doesn't want to be told what to do, but she doesn't mind being told what to believe. You can see how much it frustrates Winston, because he is desperately trying to cling to the world that once was, and Julia can't remember life ever being any different. She buys all the lies that the Party feeds to her, and I think it diminishes the hope within Winston. He knows he is a dying breed. It also adds frustration and desperation for the reader. From the outside looking in, you know time is short and Winston's generation is the last chance to rise up and make a change.
I think the relationship between Julia and Winston is so brilliantly thought out and illustrated.
