She had felt hunger and fear. She didn't want to feel that way again.
Even after she had enough and didn't need to be worried anymore I think she felt like she had to be on her guard. She had to make sure she did everything to ensure that didn't happen again.
I agree. She had vowed never to be hungry again. I also think she liked being in control of her own destiny. She was not going to just take what life had handed her. She was going to fight for what she wanted in life. Such an admirable trait, just too bad the things she wanted in life never had more substance or served anyone other than her.
She had such a fear of not having money and being able to take care of herself and her family that she was driven to never be in a position to not have it. She was so afraid of hunger and losing Tara and couldn't ever let herself relax even when she had so much money. She also felt great pride in what she had accomplished in the business world as a woman and didn't want to let that go.
