Rhett joining the army
Why does Rhett leave Scarlett and the others after getting them out of Atlanta to fight in a cause that he always said he doesn't believe in?

I have no idea.
I think he felt he had to. Or maybe he did feel it a duty at that point when there was nothing left for him to do.
I thought it was kind of weird. Maybe pride? Maybe some feeling of devotion to the way of life he had known? Maybe both?
I think when he saw the bravery of the men as the war was coming to an end and felt guilty that he hadn't served and had only made a profit off the war. I think he was deep down a good and caring person.
