Costume ball
How might the costume ball—and the heroine's appearance in Rebecca's gown—stand as a symbol for young Mrs. de Winter's situation at Manderley?

Mrs. Danver's tried to set her up for disaster knowing that her dressing up like the woman in the picture (and not telling her that Rebecca had done that) would be hurtful to her.
She did what others told her to do and Mrs. danvers wanted to ruin her and make sure no one had forgotten about Rebecca.
It was so awful! I always feel sick just knowing that part is coming. It was symbolic of her trying to fill shoes that she could not and that no one wanted her to, some people because they adored Rebecca and others because they despised her.
