Do you think that had Aibileen stayed working for Miss Elizabeth, Mae Mobley would have grown up to be racist like her mother? Do you think racism is inherent or taught?

I'm not sure. I would hope not because she loved Aibileen so much and was closer to her than her mother. Skeeter didn't grow up to be racist like her friends so I tend to think she may not have been if Aibeleen had stayed.
I think it is taught. It can be taught by the people that raise you or those around you. It can also be a learned viewpoint created by the place you live or situations you encounter.
If a person only has bad experiences with someone of a different race than that will influence the way they feel about them as well.
I think that she would have grown up remembering her relationship with Aibileen, so she wouldn't have been as racist as the generation before.
I absolutely believe that racism is taught. It is first taught by those around you. Hopefully, in that case the world around them would teach how each race brings something different and unique to the world.
I think that it is unfortunate that just because of one experience with a person from another race that it signifies every person from that race. I would hate to judge a whole race by something just one person does. It is not only races, but it is in every stereotype out there; race, religion, sex (m/f), and even cultures. The focus should be on each person, not a whole group of people.
I think racism or intolerance of any kind is learned. I do think we have a weakness as human beings where we compare and compete, which can lead to intolerance. We are flawed by nature but specifically not liking someone because of their skin color is not natural. I came from a home where we never acknowledged skin color. It was not taboo to hang out with or date someone of another race. People are people. I think I would have believed that anyway, but I am glad that I came from a home where it was never an issue. Skeeter overcame what she learned and maybe Mae Mobley would have as well, but they were at a huge disadvantage because of their upbringing.
Aibileen was teaching Mae about love and trying to turn the tide of looking at blacks differently. Mae was learning and hopefully will remember. I felt so sad when she was forced to little Mae and lil' guy. She loved them and was so good for them...but their mom was not strong enough to do what was right even thought I think she really knew and didn't really want to let Aibileen go.
