What is it about the book?
"There is no doubt that the elder Dumas was the greatest story teller of the nineteenth century," wrote a critic in the New York times. George Saintsbury describes The Count of Monte Cristo as "the most popular book in Europe." and it has never not been popular in England, America, and the Continent. The question is why? What is it about the novel that has made it so popular? What does it do for the reader that is so satisfying?

It is action-packed, moral packed, filled with so many characters giving so much life to the story, and in the end the bad guys get their due! He also writes so well that one can read and understand the story without having to concentrate on every word.The only thing I liked better in the movie was that in the end Dantes and Mercedes get back together and that Albert was his and Mercedes son.
It could have been written today.
