Monte Cristo’s last words to Maximilian are “Wait and hope.” What is the significance of this statement? How does it connect to the larger narrative of the novel?

In so many words "patience and hope" are what life is made up of...and though Maxmillian could see no reason to wait and hope because he thought he had lost his true love, Valentine, Dantes kept telling him to wait and hope. In the end she was restored to him.
