Pride

When Guy Clarence gives Sara a coin she accepts it, but she realizes that doing so means she must "put her pride in her pocket." What does this mean? Does Sara's pride make her situation easier or harder on her?

Even though she did not wish to accept the coin she knew that it meant so much to Clarence to be doing a kind deed for someone who had a great need. So she swollowed her pride and accepted his loving gift. To have had everything one wanted and then be so poor was hard and to be receiving "charity" would have been hard but she had such a good heart and thought about others and what they may be feeling and so put her feelings aside.
