Marian and Fosco
Why is Marian so mesmerized by Fosco, who she says "has interested me, has attracted me, has forced me to like him"? Why is Fosco able to see Marian, despite her physical unattractiveness, as a "magnificent creature"?

She was intrigued for a while by his amazing intellect and knowledge and his upper class manners and gentleman-like behavior. He admired her for her intellect, strong personality, and strength.
I think he has 'charm'. We all know people (or know of people) that are like that. They have "people talk" as it would be called in The Goose Girl. They can charm people into liking them no matter what they look like or what they say.
He also sees that in others and I think she has it too but in a more natural way because she is just easy to like.
