Wanderer
Given Wanderer's reputation as a very experienced, brave, and strong
soul, was it surprising to you how easily she gave in to Melanie?

Not really. Mel was a very strong person and wasn't about to let herself die away. As they got to know one another better they came to like each other as sisters. Wanda had a very sweet and likable soul and just didn't have the strength to overcome Mel's thoughts.
Experienced doesn't always mean over-powering. And Wanda was definitely not over-powering Melanie. She was a fighter, and wouldn't just give in a succumb to her fate. I think it shows how strong Wanda was just by her being able to equal Melanie.
I think you both summed it up. It wasn't that she was weak- it was that Melanie was such a fighter. Also, Wanderer was kind.
