Parameters
Erik ends by admitting that part of his pleasure comes from "taking other people's very narrow parameters of what's possible and what's not, and shattering them into a million pieces."

I think sometimes others parameters give one the courage and perhaps challenge to say "I'll show you". You may want to prove them very wrong in the limitations they have placed on you.
