Healing songs

How would you describe Dashti's healing songs- are they poetry, folk lore, magic? What is their purpose: why does Dashti use them , and why would Hale include them as part of the story?

I imagined it to be a little of all of those things.
Sometimes when you are feeling stressed you can put on really beautiful relaxing music and instantly feel the stress leave your body. There are some songs and some voices that I hear and my spirit just exhales, "Ahh".
Andrea Bocelli does that to me. I can't understand most of what he sings but his CD is a go to for me if I need to calm. There was even a commercial on a while back that had a song of his playing. Every time the commercial came on I would close my eyes and just feel the calm.
It can also have the opposite reaction. If you listen to something upbeat you can feel energetic. If you listen to something loud and crazy you can feel chaotic.
I think, as she states in the book, it was less about what she was saying and more about the way she sang it.. the melody, the inflections of voice and note.
Music and singing is powerful.

The healing songs were soothing and brought out the best in those who needed healing but also brought out the wolf in the evil Kahn. They had a power for whatever was needed at the time. She grew up with healing songs that she had seen her mother and some others use...and found she had that gift also.
