Olana

The girls disliked and feared her, but was there anything about Olana that made her a good choice to be their tutor?

Olana did not want to fail at her tutoring because that would not go well with the Prince. She was forceful and determined to have the girls learn. And would not allow them to waste away their time.She told them they didn't deserve to even have a try at winning the Prince because of their lowly station and I am sure that gave the girls incentive to prove her wrong. She also showed them the picture of the cottage to give them a goal to work towards and even though it wasn't true it gave great incentive to Miri and the others.

Although she was totally Nazi, I think she really began to want the girls to succeed, and not just for her own reputation, but because she began to see the potential in them and maybe care for them in her uptight little way. Negative pressure doesn't seem like the best learning environment, but she almost forced the girls to learn, thereby giving them the weapons to take a stand against her.
