Making friends
What qualities does Miri have that helped her to make friendships with the other girls, even the more difficult ones like Katar?

I think she always tried to be kind and fair. I think when all the girls saw how fair she was and what a leader she was and the courage she had and what she did to help them she won them over.
When she was willing to help them all so they could go to the ball, they were almost forced to concede that she wasn't just in it for herself and to win the competition; she wanted them all to be happy and have their chance to be there. She didn't just want to win at any cost, no matter who she hurt or left behind; she cared about the others and wanted to belong.
