Lessons

How did the lessons in diplomacy, conversation, and courtesy help Miri and the other academy members?

Olana was not being at all fair to the girls and it finally cmae to a showdown. The girls left the Academy to go home against Olana's wishes and then came back and through the lessons they learned they were able to work out a more fair and equitable situation at the Academy for all of them and to show Olana they had been learning and were putting that knowledge into practise!

The things they learned helped them to stand up for themselves and their community, and to want better things for them all. Gaining that knowledge gave them the opening to break free from the quarry and to have enough money & knowledge to dream of something other than working in the quarry for the rest of their lives. Education opened doors for them that weren't there before.
