Who Matthew is

Matthew’s revelation—that he is in fact Charlotte’s future husband—stuns Beth. But in Beth’s timeline, Charlotte is still a child. She’ll never be hurt if Matthew chooses to stay with her mother instead of returning to his own present to be with her. So why doesn’t Beth ask him to stay? What would you do?

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
That's what I have to say about that.
Let me start by saying I love Richard Paul Evans. I have enjoyed every book of his that I have read but this one is such a departure to me.
If Matthew had come back, helped her figure out Charlotte's problem, got her the money, and just been a good friend and then left I would have liked the story.
BUT WHY OH WHY did he make them fall in love.
I was completely taken out of the story once that happened and never could make my way back into it.
First of all, he was cheating. They didn't see it that way because he was in the past, Charlotte was still a little girl, and so he didn't feel like he was married to her yet... but HE WAS.
So, not only was Beth dating a married guy after having been cheated on but she was the other women to her daughters husband.
That's messed up.
Then they go traipsing about the world making lots of money and we're supposed to believe that Charlotte doesn't (at her age) remember this guy when she meets him later on?
She would have been stealing her daughters husband if she asked him to stay.
So weird. So creepy. Sorry but I think this story had potential but was a crash and burn.

I love what you had to say, Cheryl. I really like his books, too, but this was a little much! I did not expect this kind of story line and so was a little disappointed that things occured in it that did. So sorry about the recommendation...I thought it would be such a good Christmas book. It was interesting but quite weird.
