Aunt Alexandra

What do you think of Aunt Alexandra? Did your opinion of her change during the book? Can you understand why she was concerned with Atticus' parenting?

Aunt Alexandra was annoying but she was a product of her society.

Name and family history meant a lot to her. That is the way it had always been and she couldn't see what was broken in society.

I would have worried about my niece and nephew too amidst that trial. She was truly just doing the best she could and luckily I think her view of her world was broadened in the end.

I think you're right. I don't think she meant to be mean or anything but she would have driven me nuts.
I wouldn't let anyone tell my kids to do or not do things if they weren't what I believed in.

AT first I really didn't like her...haughty and not very fair or understanding. And she just kind of took over when she came to live with the Finch family. She felt that Atticus wasn't giving Scout enought of an example to be a young lady and dress and act and talk like one. But after awhile she began to learn many lessons about life and good and was touched by it and gained more understanding of others.

Was she really there just to help Scout (& Jem)? I couldn't figure out if she was really there to help, or if she just wanted away from her husband and had a very noble, self-sacrificing excuse handy... What do you ladies think?
