Foreshadowing
How does the author use foreshadowing to comment on and prepare the reader for the story's defining conflicts? consider the early introduction of Fawkes, the Dursley's hatred of all things magic, and Ginny's dismay when the cat was petrified.

These were all things that were and would be an integral part of the story...the Dursleys hatred of anything magic that carrys on through all the books, Fawkes later saving Harry in several ways in the Chamber...and in getting he and the others out of the Chamber, and Jenny's part in the happenings at Hogwarts unwillingly.
The first time I read it I don't think I even noticed the foreshadowing so it's hard to think of that way now but I guess each of those things did lead to later happenings.
