Neglect
Both Mary and her cousin Colin grew up surrounded by adults who catered to their every whim. Yet both of them could also be described as neglected. Why?

I think it is almost worse to have everything but love, than to have nothing of either.
If someone will give you everything but a part of themself, you feel bought off and alone. It is like the giver is consciously aware of you but determined not to have anything to do with you.
Ouch!
Exactly. They may have been surrounded by people to see to their needs and wants but they didn't have anyone there to 'nurture' them.
Because they were not shown love and given attention by those they wanted and needed love from.
