The garden

The robin leads Mary to the secret garden but what compels her to visit it again and again? Why does she feel so comfortable there so quickly? why do you think it is important for Mary , at first, to keep the garden a secret?

I think the garden had to be a secret because it was her hiding place. She finally had a place that was safe and hers alone. It allowed her to feel joy.

I love the garden. I love that it is not perfect. I love that the roses have grown wild. It is such a beautiful symbol of real life. The trials, and neglect, and mystery and history of it make it real. Our trials and experiences can make us more beautiful and unique, like the secret garden.

I think she continued to look for it because she was filled with curiosity and she wanted to see and stand in something that no one else did.
She probably wanted to feel like she had something of her very own in this strange place.
The garden became a place of new birth, of starting over.
I want a secret garden!

She needed something that she could call her own...some place she could go where she could be alone and find peace. It also became a challenge to find the "secret" that others had talked about but didn't know how to find it or get in. She also needed something to do as I am sure she was rather bored at first. She didn't want her "secret" to be invaded by others because she felt she finally had something of her very own
