Mary and colin
Within a few moments of meeting Colin, Mary realizes they have much in common. What are the negative qualities they share? What are the positive ones?

Of course Mary and Colin are both spoiled and selfish and not very kind.
But they are also headtrong, which is good and bad. When they channel their stubborness toward the positive they are unstoppable. I believe their determination and strong will is what saves both of them.
They also have imagination and hope which are also powerful qualities.
I love when it says that Mary came to find herself and save Colin. Until they had each other they had no idea who they were or how they could be better.
Once again, I agree.
They are both in sad little worlds devoid of adults that really care for them. They are both selfish and spoiled. They both are so caught up in themselves they have no idea what the world is really like.
I think they are both smart and curious. As Julie said they are headstrong and determined.
They were spoiled by their servants and were selfish and very needy. They didn't didn't consider the feelings of others because they had been so neglected themselves...Mary because she had a very selfish mother and wanted nothing to do with Mary and demanded the servants let her have anything she wanted so she would not bother her. So that is how she learned to treat people. Colin was neglected for a different reason but still had those around him that were expected to serve him and he demanded from everyone anything he wanted. He was so afraid of a hump back and dying that I think he was also fighting back and lashing out at others. Mary saw this in him when she first met him because she saw herself in many ways in him...especially since she had begun to realize how she had been and how she had acted first and was now well on her way to changing.
