Mice
What does the mouse in the first chapter tell you about Lennie? What does it tell you about the relationship of George and Lennie? How does George try to keep Lennie from getting in trouble?

Lennie just doesn't understand his own strength and that he can so easily hurt/kill something. He didn't want to get rid of the dead mouse because it was soft. George threatens him that he is going to leave him and not let him raise rabbits.
It introduces you to the fact that George takes care of Lenny, that Lenny doesn't know his own strength, that he is different, and that he loves animals and soft things but can't keep himself from hurting them.
