Adultery
Critics have sometimes disagreed about whether Hawthorne condones or condemns the adultery of Hester and Dimmesdale in the novel. Can either view be supported? Which do you feel is the case?

I don't believe he condoned it or condemned it. I believe he told the story and a person could come to their own conclusion. I would not have condoned Hester's actions but I do not believe she was a wicked woman...she was a good woman who made a poor choice...and I wouldn't condemn her because I think she showed amazing grace in dealing with the outcome of the choice.
