Symbols

What are some symbols in A Wrinkle in Time? How do they relate to the plot and characters?

The only one I can think of right now is the drawing in the book with the symbols showing the cocept of a wrinkle in time and how that would work.

I quess maybe one more would be The Black Thing that represented darkness and evil and control over others minds and actions.
