No men?
What are the features of Cranford that make it essentially a woman's town?Do the women of Cranford actually dislike men?

They seem to be the bosses of everything and are involved in everything that goes on. When Deborah was alive I think all the ladies bowed to her discretion and opinion. But all the ladies seem to make the rules and norms and opinions of life in Cranford. I think they just felt they didn't need men to make their lives productive and got along just fine without them.
It seemed at first like they might not trust men or something but I think you are right.. they are just a group of women that think they can do it all on their own and don't need the men around.
